Sometimes I get distracted and there’s other things on my notebook other than a written story. But last week I saw these poor lithops in a garden center, in tiny pots of dry peat moss and perlite. I knew once they got watered in this cooler weather that they would likely rot and die.
So I bought them and took them home, washed them and teased all the “soil” from their roots. Then I let them dry again and planted them out into a clay pot with the proper high mineral mix. I don’t plan on watering them for a couple of weeks so their roots can heal but I know even then once I water them they could still die.
But imagine if plants were living objects that breathed and could sense things and they could talk to each other through root contact or some other way? Do you think they’d be happy?
Anyway, the notebook is empty but the lithops aren’t in the way and I think I’ve suddenly got a head full of story ideas.
Happy writing everyone!

David - Thanks Morgan, the strange living stones are from South Africa where some live only from morning dew, so they kind of work nicely out here too
Morgan Broadhead - Those are some of the strangest looking plants I’ve ever seen — and also very cool! Y’all got some funky stuff out there in Australia, which is probably why the rest of us look at you in awe and wonder. Good luck with the lithops and the writing!
